I. NorCal House of Chess Winter Championship (February 25 & 26, 2012)

NorCal House of Chess is sponsoring a long-time control event this winter. This tournament is perfect for Adults & kids who prefer to play in a long-time control. For the Open Section, it will be a FIDE-RATED event! Several Masters have signed up. Advance entries will soon be posted. Please email us, if you want to participate in this event.

Entry Fee: $ 55.00. If payment is received after Feb. 24 or onsite: $ 65.00
($5.00 discount if NHC member; $ 20.00 more if playing up)
February Supplement will be used.
GM/IM Free if confirmed by Feb. 24 (Entry fee will be deducted from Prize money; Late fee will be applied if onsite registration)

Round times: 5 Rounds and Game in 90 minutes.

II. Group Classes on weekends!

It is still not too late to sign up for the private group classes. Slots are limited since we want to keep the numbers to a minimum. For those who attended the first session, please email us to confirm if you want your kids to continue with the program.

A. Intermediate/Advance Class 10:30 am – 12:00 pm Saturdays
B. Master Class 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm (Sat) and/or 10:00-11:30 am (Sun)
C. Beginners/Intermediate Class 10:00 am – 11:30 am Sundays

III. FRIDAY KNIGHT MARATHON

The first version of the Winter Marathon is about to end this Friday. In the Open Section, International Master Ricardo De Guzman is leading with 4 points after beating WFM Uyanga Bayambaa in an exciting game where, the former almost flagged before checkmating her. In the U1500 Section, Seth Castro is undefeated with 4 points after beating Shreyas Swaminathan. Almost 40 players are playing in this tournament. If you are interested to participate in the second version of the Winter Marathon, please email us. The Marathon will start on March 2.

IV. NORCAL HOUSE OF CHESS INVITATIONAL (IM-NORM EVENT)

Last month, NorCal House of Chess hosted the most elite chess tournament in Northern California. It was very successful that it was all over the news and everyone is eager to find out when the next event will be. We are pleased to announce that we are hosting an IM-Norm Event (Round-Robin) on March 17, 18, 23, 24, & 25. It’s a 10-player round-robin tournament that gives a chance for players to earn their IM Norm. We have a long list of players who want to participate but here’s a list of players who are confirmed to play.
