Top Rower Neykova Wins Bulgarian Sports Personality of the Year
23 December 2008, Tuesday
Bulgaria’s only golden medalist at Beijing Olympic Games 2008, the rower Rumyana Neykova, was voted the country’s Sports Personality of the Year on Monday.
Neykova received her award from the President Georgi Parvanov at a splendid ceremony in Sofia’s Rainbow Plaza.
The champion got 3,017 points from the vote held among hundreds of sports journalists from 75 Bulgarian media outlets in the 51st edition of the awards.
Last year’s winner and Beijing silver medalist, wrestler Stanka Zlateva, came in second.
I did not manage to grab the Olympic gold so I will continue pursuing my dream,” Zlateva said.
The third position in the ranking was occupied by Beijing bronze medalist, wrestler Kiril Terziev.
The journalists voting in the poll also picked Rumyana Neykova’s husband, Svilen Neykov, as “Coach of the Year.”
The first ten in the list have been completed by the names of the wrestlers Radoslav Velikov and Yavor Yanakiev, the top swimmer Petar Stoychev, the boxer Kubrat Pulev, Bulgaria’s youngest tennis champion Grigor Dimitrov, Manchester United’s striker Dimitar Berbatov and the chess player Vesselin Topalov.

Surely that cannot be a surprise, as it’s an ‘Olympic Year’, and also there is some question as to whether chess is a sport or not.
Personally, I think not.
bla bla bla
for sure is chess a sport!!!
Of course she does, chess is not a sport, it’s (just) a (thinking) game. No matter how much you like to rate it more. Look at the bellies of most of the players and admit there’s no sport involved.
Solving problems in maths is no sport either.
She looks better than Vaseline!
Better luck next time Topa, now go cry to Danailov so he can go break Neykova’s legs with a tire iron.
Topalov was first in 2005

If he was a candidate then we can assume they agreed he was eligible to win.
The really insulting thing is that a Bulgarian News Agency spelled his name wrong. (Vesselin??)

No, No! Is is spelled “Vaseline”.
Bulgarians go through the “back door”.
In Bulgaria, nothing says I love you more than Vaseline.
If a Bulgarian hates you, he uses Big Chucky brand Chunky peanut butter.
we are starting to get visits from true intellectuals in this place, exciting.
Aren’t all chess players intellectuals?
…even the wierd pedophillic types who have a thing for Bulgarians and peanut butter?
