On January 12, I posted this story https://chessdailynews.com/nato-chess-mvp-this-story-was-discovered-to-be-bogus/ about military chess. Since then, a number of people have writen to me about the validity of the original story by writing to the Navy’s MWR Representative. The e-military news website has since pulled the story. I would like to thank everyone for being so alert about this matter.
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
How unfortunate. If it were true, the MORALE WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPROVED FOR MILITARY FAMILIES!
This news affects people serving in the military!
Hahaha.
Hahaha.
Hahaha.
What a joke!
What is so funny?
Obviously you do not understand the plight of American families stationed in foreign countries.
They do not understand their host country language, TV, or Radio shows. When I lived in Europe I passed my time playing billiards and watching the military sports competitions to include chess. It was a major part of my life that made me feel at “home” because the rest of the culture was alien and sometimes frightening to my American values. We cheered our local military base sports heros. My father was one of them! He is a good chess player! The chess community should do the same for their heros instead of practicing silly rivalry and petty in-fighting!
“the culture was alien and sometimes frightening to my American values”
Where is that, Germany? Poland?
You could have passed your time learning the language and enjoying the civilization of the aliens.
Not during the cold war. It was a different time and place. We kept to ourselves. We were fighting a war not on holiday. We stayed on base and rarely mingled with the host country.
Again, you do not understand the plight of American families in foreign lands.
