THE WOODLANDS – The Woodlands Children’s Museum is hosting its 1st Annual Chess Day on Saturday, May 19, 9am – Noon, with a Chess Tournament following at 1:30pm. The chess workshop will be taught by Jorge Manzanera, a chess, math and academic coach, who hosts workshops on a regular basis at the Museum. An added feature to Chess Day will be Alex Chua, who has won numerous awards for Chess and is a National Life Master.

“Jorge always brings a sense of wonder and awe to the Museum with his well-attended chess workshops,” Angela Colton said, Executive Director for The Woodlands Children’s Museum. “Jorge and Alex will both be on hand for the May workshop to teach children the mind-stimulating game of chess. We hope everyone will join in the fun.”
The workshop is offered to children 6-12 years of age and the cost is $60 per child for the Saturday event. Sessions begin at 9am with an assessment, instruction and application of principles course. The workshop will end at Noon with a Chess Tournament following lunch (off-site) at 1:30pm. The Tournament will feature five rounds and could last several hours dependent on the players involved.
