Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Depends on the medium:
For televisionI would say American Football and Soccer.
On the internet, chess, hands down.
But there is nothing like watching a live baseball game with a fully-loaded hot dog in one hand and a beer in the other.
personally i prefer chess im avid chess player n follow matches on icc playonline wish there could b chess on tv
1. My child’s basketball games!
2. Giants-Cowboys (Susan, were you rooting for NY or Texas?)
3. Danilov-Topolov boxing match
the most exiting sport in the world is A.F.L, thats the Australian Football Leage or Aussie Rules, it has the skill that is reqiured in soccor, the tuffness needed in american football and the players need to have the athleticle ability of iron man triathletes.
as an american seeing the game for the first time i was amazed by how exciting and gripping a game could be.
Football, but only the NFL. College football bores me, and arena football is too geared for offense. I like the 7 3 defensive battles. Or the ones where one team blows the other out by 40 points. Pretty much the opposite of what the general public likes.
which is the most exciting sport to watch?
It is a culture and upbringing-dependent question. I am pretty sure that if some alien race would be watching ANY of these, ALL would have leave them cold and totally non-excited. When I was growing up, soccer was by far the most exciting sport to watch, but now I understand that if somebody grew up with american football, baseball, etc., for THEM those are the most exciting.
None of these sports have some innate and objective excitement factor, but all of them can be exciting, if the viewer have some level of emotional attachment to it.
For me, personally, still a good soccer game appears to be the most exciting, but only if a few goal occurs (I loath the low scoring, defensive 0:0 or 1:1 games). I love to watch tennis, a very elegant skill and brains combination sport.
As far as intellectual activity, chess is fascinating, but I would exactly call it “exciting”. That is not the nature of chess (bar blitz of course). As a spectator intellectual game, bridge can be a bit more exciting, because it is faster paced.

Each time such a question was asked, I’ve been hearing that chess is not a sport, but a game!
Sport climbing, alpine skiing, voleyball, downhill on mountain bikes, ski jumping on mammoth hills (jumps up to 240 meters long).
I like the way the scoring system in tennis creates so many high-pressure moments and so many opportunities for a losing player to come back and win. In fact you can be outscored in single points in a tennis match and still win the match on sets.
Now if only chess had a scoring system that induced exciting play and risk-taking.
Any sport that involves risk-taking is exciting to watch.. i personally love Formula 1.. ( no Nascar oval boring-hit my car stuff, or IRL- Cart ) Go Rafa Nadal ! Roger Federer is a genius by the way !
Call me Canadian but Hockey!
None listed … Rugby Union is best.
Chess is not a sport: Boxing and particularly Chess Boxing are just gross (IMO) and should be banned.
I would have to say track & field, especially the running events. They are pure competitions of skill, easy to understand, of relatively short duration (except for the marathon) and visually exciting.
For most other sports, they are often exciting, but that is as much due to the staging, editing, and expert commentary. Golf is a good example – I find it exciting, because the TV network does all the work to cover the sprawling course with cameras, and to only show me the highlights .. the waiting & walking is edited out.
Ice Hockey Rules! Go Boston Bruins!
1. nothing beats biathlon (sprint and womens relay especially)
2. internet chess blitz is lots of fun to watch when the players are exciting (like Grischuk vs Naka) but it is not a sport, really.
Perhaps another way ot approaching this question is what sports would be most interesting to watch to someone not familiar with the sport.
Sometime a very well played match or game is completely boring to the novice watchers. A tight defensive struggle in American football or soccer can seem quite dull and boring to those who don’t know what to look for. (just like a complex long game which ends up a draw – only real chess fans appreciate these games 🙂 )
Anyone who knows the nuances of a sport or game is almost always a fan so they will find watching fascinating – no matter how boring it may seem to everyone else – just go to any championship of any sport and game and there will be many fans there absolutely enthralled.
Football, the one played with the foot, wins hands down.
It is not a coincidence that nation with a strong Chess Culture also has a strong Football culture. Great Chess Players like Kasparov, Carlsen, Kramnik are football players themselves or great fans of the games.
Kasparov recently likens the 1982 semifinal game Brazil vs Italy to his games against Petrosian.
Chess players appreciate the Football concept that the team that controls the center controls the game. They are enthralled by the passing and maneuvering regardless if the game is scoreless.
For some reason team sports leave me cold. I like individual challenges, so I enjoy watching tennis, boxing and chess from this list. Also billiards and table tennis.
