  But what if black plays:
  1…Ng6
  2…Ne5
  covering square g4 (only one where white could deliver check) and threatening Nf3#

  That way black is wining, if i did not miss something

  of course hxg6 goes against Ng6 but you’re right, I was a little quick thinking it is over. Thanks for showing me!
  One clue is that Nh7 isn’t only a good threat but the only move black here. 😉
  But after 1. – Nh7 black gets other ways to interact. Perhaps there is something I haven’t looked at?

  1. a8R, Nh7 (only move) 2. Rg8, Nf6
  Black can still try this one.
  Now moving the rook (Rg7 e.g.) gives black time to play Nxd5 4. b6, Ne2!! and black b pawn makes the day.
  So better:
  3. h6! Nxg8 4. h7 and this time should be 1:0, too.

  Quite funny: 3. b6? instead of h6! isn’t enough as black again has mating ideas.
  3. b6?, Nxg8 4. b7, Nh6 5. b8Q(R), Nf5 with the idea Nh4.

  So the whole solution should be:
  1. a8R! (1. a8Q?, Nh7 2. Qg8, Ng5 =), Nh7 [Ng5] 2. Rg8, Nf6! 3. h6!! (3. Rg7?, Nxd5 4. b6 or h6, Nc3 0:1; 3. b6?, Nxg8 4. b7, Nh6 5. b8Q, Nf5 [Nh4] 0:1), Nxg8 (Nxd5 4. h7, Nc3 5. h8Q/R# the difference!) 5. h7 1:0

  Again forgotten/overseen something?
