Business park breaks ground, creates jobs

Investors in the Lubbock Business Park are hoping some students want to consider making Lubbock their permanent residence after college.
Ground was broken Tuesday at the corner of Interstate 27 and Yucca Drive where the 583 acre, 51 lot business complex will stand.
According to the Lubbock Business Park Project Overview handout, Lubbock Business Park is predicted to create an additional 770 jobs and have an economic impact of $152 million on the community within its first five years.
With the first five companies working out of the business park, according to the handout, it is estimated that an “additional $14 million will be generated in state and local taxes.”
David Alderson, chairman of Lubbock Economic Development Alliance, the company developing the park, said he hopes Lubbock Business Park will help put the community on the map.
“It’s kind of like a car dealership; we had a wonderful car dealership, it was beautiful, we had the showroom, but we had no inventory, so we bring people down here and they had nothing to buy,” he said. “Well, now we have inventory, and we are getting better and better companies, and I think you’re going to see more and more companies show up out here.”
Current construction, expected to facilitate three companies, is costing about $13 million and being paid for by LEDA he said.
