These are not PDAs. They are powerful portable computers. How will this affect the chess cheating problem with new super computers the size of our hands?
Well, Kramnik wouldn’t have to go to the bathroom so often. 🙂 (joke! joke!)
Seriously, it’s impressive, but that keyboard looks like a pain to use.
Nice blog ad. I hope these pay off enough to keep this site running because I really like the puzzles. In a year we’ll have keychains that have twice the power that thing does.
I think Toiletov was using something like this one in Argentina (not so small though)A couple of commetaries-complains were expressed and in Kalmikya he tried to turn the suspictions around by accusing Kramnik of such. Credibility is low for Toiletov…I mean, LapTaplov…I mean, Topa…Oh heck, I can’t remember his name no more.
This item is an oldie but a goodie but anon is right, such ads will only stimulate and antagonize the cheater.
How much will these be? My PDA went bad so I may want one! By the way, Susan, are you going to be playing in the American Open this week in LA? I hope so or if you visit that would be great too! Saturday night Quick Chess tournament is always strong.
MayanKing, I think it is around $1,800-$1,900.
Sorry, I do not play in Open events. I cannot even remember the last time any classical world champions playing in open events.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar

Well, I wasn’t very impressed with the processor and bus speed. I am looking around for a laptop myself but think I will wait till after new year + 3 months since Vista is coming. Core 2 Duo 7600 something. yakkity yak. I use mine not only for chessers, but also for digital audio samples so I need fastest I can afford. Love the new macbook and macbookpro, but will prolly go with a dell. I digress into my PC fantasies *sigh
anon “such ads will only stimulate and antagonzie the cheater” is a naive statement! Anyone with the criminal mind it takes to cheat in chess tournaments will find a way to cheat without this information Susan provided on her blog.
“Sorry, I do not play in Open events. I cannot even remember the last time any classical world champions playing in open events.” Polgar said.
‘Classical World Champions”? Are women included in this title?
Maybe you should consider an open event Mrs. Polgar. Ever consider Foxwood or World Open?? Of course being a mother probably takes most of your time these days.
Polgar vs. Emory Tate… yeah you right!
tfk,
Maybe you didn’t read the whole blog which Susan writes, “How will this affect the chess cheating problem with new super computers the size of our hands?”
Does this not sound like a warning, better yet, a precursor of things to happen? You also state,”…is a naive statement!” Relative to whom? Relative to one of most visited chess professional blogs on the net?
Problems not only arise from a criminal mind but the people who report ads that are against such wrongdoings.
ps.
never ever ever ever buy a sony. Ive had 3 and they all failedafter about 1 year
Interesting that now that the Kramnik-Topalov match is over, despite all the accusations against the Topalov team (for accusing Kramnik of cheating), more and more openly the cheating in chess (with computers, other high-tech devices) became an issue. Perhaps the accusation wasn’t that outrageous after all (regardless whether Kramnik was cheating or not).

I really don’t think this will have impact on computer cheating in chess. It’s way too easy now and with wireless technology it is not necessary to actually have the computer. Of course the lone cheaters would still need a device like this one but soon, as an earlier Anon pointed out, there will be keychains with more computing power.
“such ads will only stimulate and antagonize the cheater.”
I’m not sure what anon was trying to say here. If he is saying that you are encouraging cheating by displaying the ad here then I think he is wrong. A cheat is a cheat and Susan Polgar putting an ad on her BLOG will neither encourage them to cheat nor will it make them angry at ????(antagonize???)
GM Polgar, as an aside do you or this site get paid for such advertisements? I really don’t care if you do but feel it detracts (if only a little) from your BLOG.
This site receives $00000. I blog about what I find interesting. I find this new gadget interesting. That is why I brought it up. But this site does NOT get a penny from ads. I refused to have paid ads here.
Thanks for the response Susan. I really enjoy this BLOG and I hope no offense was taken.
