Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Bravo Carlsen! I hope he does not burn out like some other child stars like Bacrot and Ponomarev.
I will be very much surprised if young Mr. Carlsen does not win the World Championship in the near future. There is something special about his games, sudden bursts of energy from the pieces, that sets him apart right now from other young players. I wasn’t following chess too closely during Kasparov’s rise to the top of the chess world, but I’ve read similar remarks about his games at that time.
Magnus Carlsen has just won the game 2 .
The lad is simply outstanding , in game 2 he was in his preparation in the opening , he enjoyed a comfortable advance in the time control , his play was flawless , i think that he’s the next big thing in chess , the lad is barely 16 year old and 2700ish, it’s amazing , his Norwegian trainer is probably the best you could dream of , a serious competitor in sports and good GM that prepares Magnus extremely well , Carlsen has a healthy life and i hope that he’ll have a great future , i love that kid 🙂
Does Carlsen only own one shirt or what? We always see him in the same old Champion hoodie LOL!!!
Is there any way to see the game online? I mean to post these moves somewhere, and watch the game? Without the board those moves are like matrix to me 🙂
1. Carlsen did not start playing chess at 4year. He start playing serious chess at 8!
2. he is 15 not 16(november)
3. He has a Danish coch(Peter Heine) not Norwegian.
4. Yes he is outstanding!!
5. Yes he will be World Chapmion(Classical i hope! 🙂 )
6. He has 2 sisters that could help him to get som new cloths.
7. I love this fast news sitew!! Bravo S. Polgar
8. I think we can expect som brilliant action in semifinal Karjakin vs Carlsen, can hardly wait…
9. Have a nice day chess lovers!!

Norway
@ Yes he will be World Chapmion(Classical i hope! 🙂 )
What’s that? There’s only 1 title.
And the one you speak of only existed for a decade and change.
I myself only count Classical champions 14.
fide count every thing, so that was the reason i wrote classical!
Geir
Bravo Carlsen!
Remind me the polgar sisters not so a long time 🙂
Carlsen is still 15.
he is not 16 yet for 2 months.
Nov 30 he will be 16.
so right now he is 15 years 10 months.
26.Rxb5 c6
I admit it. when I saw this move I thought he was in big trouble. I was looking for a way for him to save himself. then he played
27.Qf5!
and of course I was all confused. and the online internet went crazy wild. and I suddenly began to realize he had won.
he played it so fast. what a chess player.
Well Susan you may be ready to play Bobby Fischer, but I am not ready to play Magnus Carlsen. If he played 1.e4 I might resign right there. LOL.
I am very fortunate to have watched both games. both are great.
Susan save up this position toward the end and use it for one of your puzzles in about a year after we all forget.
My bad , user anonymous , i thought his coach was from Norway , i had read something about it in the past , an ex- professional footballer (at the highest level of soccer , that even played for his national team ) , Chess Grandmaster , and graduated in Law (interesting person 🙂 ) , but you are probably right that he’s from Danemark , i don’t remember exactly 🙂
Still , i was disappointed to see Fressinet lose , he’s really a nice guy ,one of our few 2600’s and sometimes has some great games , but Carlsen was superior today and is really very entertaining to watch , i was also happy for the kid , he’s one of my favourite , i expect him to win the tournament hopefully .
Janus, you are right. Simen Agdestein was Carlsen’s coach (and they are still good friends and rivals). I’m not sure that He is still coaching Carlsen though. I believe that the other person was right in citing Peter Heine (Nielsen?) as his current coach.
Regardless, Simen did a wonderful job with Magnus and he should be credited with helping to mold the boy into the player he has become.
About him wearing the same sweater all the time, it’s probably his favourite one… I had a favourite sweater too when I was his age 🙂
Anywho, Carlsen is attending NTG (loosely translates into “High school for top athletes”), where GM Simen Agdestein is teaching chess class.
Agdestein is probably the closest thing Carlsen has to a coach (there is also Carlsen’s parents, of course..), although he is also training with Danish GM Heine Nielsen. Nielsen is pursuing his own career and probably isn’t ready to step down to become a coach.

Cheers anonymous , thx for the informations , i agree with you , Simen deserves a lot of credit too.
If some want to watch live the game Volokitin vs Harikrishna , you can probably on ICC or Playchess.com , but if you don’t have access to it , it’s free here :
http://www.agdechecs-ccas.com/live/accueil.php
Just click on “direct/live” , you need java installed
It’s now the blitz tie-break after two draws in the match Volokitin(2645)-Harikrishna(2674) , it’s going to be exciting 🙂
I disagree entirely that Bacrot or Ponomariov has burned out. Each has regularly exceeded a 2700 rating, which by current standards is near the very top in the world, top 20 or so. For most, top 20 is the absolute most they can achieve, no matter what they do, no matter how hard they try. If either had burned out, they would not maintain ratings around this area.
This is not at all a sign of “burn out”, simply that each person has a different limit. Just because they’re not Kasparov or something doesn’t mean they’ve burned out. Did you ever think that Carlsen’s maximum potential may not even be to eventually become #1? It is possible, despite hope and hype, that this is true. There’s no magic crystal ball to see someone’s absolute maximum potential in chess.
I agree. Neither Ponomariov or Bacrot has burned out. Also, some players get stronger after they have appeared to peak. Look at what Topalov did.
