What can we say about Magnus? He crushed strong GM Fressinet 2-0 to advance to the semi-final. He is about 2700 at 15. He is down to earth and he has a nice family who supports him.
Here is his second game against Fressinet at Cap d’Adge:
GM Fressinet – GM Carlsen [B50]

Magnus will be World Champion soon!
I really hope so too , but it won’t be easy , Karjakin and especially Teimour Radjabov are very impressive , it will be very hard for Magnus , but the kid has something special 🙂
I want to see carlsen vs radjabov – and not just 2 games but that’ll have to do for now. Radjabow also just pulled a 2-0
It’s another 5-10 years before Carlsen can compete with the best player in the world, World Champion Vladimir Kramnik. Morozevich was only a year or two older when he scored that 9/10 (was it?) against GM opposition (only to disappear from the scene for a few years) and now some 13 years later he is still lacking something to manage it at the very top.
Magnus attacks work wonders against 2600’s but how many 2700+’s has he beaten in classical chess? Let’s not get ahead of things. Kramnik would slaughter him in a match. It would be a very one-sided score. Don’t forget Kramnik is 22.5/27 against another attacking genius Judit Polgar. These positional players are tough nuts to crack in match play. Especially Kramnik, who is the best of them all.
Right, Carlsen has cut though 2600+ like it was butter, but from now on, he will face multiple Top 10 players, and that’s a different ballgame.
Cap d’Agde is just a warm up for Carlsen, his target must be a good performance at Tal Memorial… where he is the lowest rated player!
“It’s another 5-10 years before Carlsen can compete with the best player in the world, World Champion Vladimir Kramnik.”
Carlsen need at least a year now to stabilize his play against the best. Then he will make another major leap forward… and make it to the Top 5 as a junior. At 19, Carlsen might already be unstoppable…
NO WAY!!!
5 to 10 years.
Magnus is ready in 3 years max.
You will see.
1 year ge us moving up the 2700
2 year he is with the top 10 knocking heads
3 years he is ready for the BIG MATCH.
Raj, Karjack and all of them have the next 3 years maximum to make there mark. After that Magnus Blows away everyone. He will sit at the top for 20+ years.
Remember I told you.
You heard it here first.
I think I’ve read somewhere that Gata (Kamsky) is planning to be a world champion in 10 years and then he’ll stop. If he did say that, then Magnus (Carlsen) might be he top rival then.
16 year old Bobby Fischer was holding his own against the best players in the world (comparable to todays 2700’s) and yet it took him another 13 years to finally win the biggest prize in chess. Those steps are not easy.
16 year old Kasparov was blowing away players like Ulf Andersson yet it took him another 6 years to finally clinch the biggest prize in chess, and could have taken much longer had Karpov started to take some risks when 5-0 up.
Karjankin will be a future World Champion. Mangus Carlsen will not be able to make it.
Mark my words, I said it first! 😉
Rgds MS.
is he really playing well? or is his opponent giving him the combinations? i mean, i’m not a master but i can see his combinations. fressinet is just walking right into them and not defending with best play.
