Chinese player Li Bo emerged winner of the Hong Kong International Open Chess Championship 2013 that was held from 26th September to 2nd October in the Convocation Room at University of Hong Kong.

The overnight leader and top rated participant IM Marcos Llaneza Vega was defeated in the last round by GM Meng Kong Wong. Li Bo used the opportunity to win his game and take a clear first place with 7,5/9 points. He earned 1300 USD for the effort.

The Championship was co-organised by the Faculty of Science, The University of Hong Kong and HKUSU Chess and Board Games Club. 69 players from 15 federations competed in the 9-round Swiss event.

The prize fund was sponsored by FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.
