GM Ortega (Cuba, now Italian) and GM Godena finished with 7.5 / 11 , and they played 2 games of tiebreak (2-0 for ortega) to decide the winner.

MI D’amore, MI D. Rombaldoni and MI Bruno played tiebreaks (little tournament) to determine third place, since the top 3 will gain berths for Italian championship 2010, bigger prize money, and a free travel for a European tournament (they can pick the tournament of their choice).

At the end, MI D’amore defeated Bruno and drawing with Rombaldoni to finish 3rd.

Last two Italian championships (2007-2008) were won by GM Caruana, and GM Godena won in 2005 and 2006 (when Caruana played his first Italian championship, 2° place on tiebreaks)
