GM Darwin Laylo Storming Through
2nd Chairman Prospero Pichay Jr. Cup International Chess Championship

The 2nd Chairman Prospero Pichay Jr. Cup International Chess Championship is taking place on 2-8th June 2011 in Subic Freeport, Philippines. 86 players from seven federations, among them 13 Grandmasters, are participating in the 10-round tournament. A total of $30,000 in cash prizes is at stake in this event.

GM Darwin Laylo is enjoying a fantastic run this far, having conceded only one draw in the first seven rounds and firmly holding the lead full point ahead of rest of the field. In the latest game he beat the Chinese GM Xu Jun with black pieces.

Georgia’s GM David Arutinian and China’s GM Li Shilong are sharing the second place with 5.5 points each. The World Cup 2011 qualifier GM Mark Paragua, who performed superbly at the recent Zone 3.3 Championships, fell behind with 4.5 points.
