Q: How is the ECU elections race going?
ECU elections race has actually not started yet. Now we have just three tickets with more or less known names. Real race will start with programs. We are still waiting for them. Three months could be long or very short period. And one important “detail” also to keep in mind: this time FIDE elections are before Europeans.
Q: Regarding this, there are multiple candidates now, what are your expectations?
After Elista 1998, Khanty Mansysk will be first repetition with three candidates for the President. The novelty this time is that among them is not the current President. I believe 12 years was enough and of course I am absolutely ready to help new administration. I expect absolutely fair and honest campaign and final battle.
Q: In FIDE elections the candidates are announcing the countries that support them, this is not happening in ECU race. Is there a reason why? And who is your favourite , who will receive your support ?
Open support for elections has been introduced in Turin. And now both candidates use this “advantage”. I am not sure that European countries will follow the same way. In any case, Silvio Danailov’s contribution to the world of chess was enormous in the last years. I will give him my full support.
Q: Now there are three candidates on the scene. Do you believe further agreements between the candidates now or in Khanty Mansiysk are possible?
No, I don’t believe that. The delegates are intelligent and independent, so it will be very difficult to convince them to vote somebody else on the second round for example.
Danailov can help chess so much.
