The commentating was exceptionally bad this year. Yasser was fine, I suppose, but Jen basically knows how to do two things: Bring gender into every conversation and cheer outright for Krush. Maurice was much more toned down than in years past, but every other segment begins with “Indeed, Yaz and Jen. According to the computer…” Maybe I’m just spoiled from the recent Candidates and Grand Prix events. Even though their analysis was hit and miss, at least they made an effort to rely on their own expertise instead of reciting Houdini lines.
Awe Come on!
The championship’s official website is a pathetic joke too. It is late Sunday night, round 9 is over, but the latest news on the website is about round 8.
If a Russian chess tournament’s website was that indifferent about coverage, the webmasters would be sent to Siberia.
