The SREI International Grandmasters Chess Tournament was held on 5-14th December at the historic Town Hall in Kolkata, India.

The tournament was open for the players rated above 1900 and was completed over 10 rounds of Swiss system.

Four players shared the first place with 7,5 points each: GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan ARM 2562, IM Mikhail Mozharov RUS 2535, GM Levan Pantsulaia GEO 2605 and FM Tigran S. Petrosyan ARM 2383.

Samvel Ter-Sahakyan took the winner’s trophy on best tie-break score.

The event was organized by the Allsports Management and Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy, under the aegis of FIDE, AICF and Bengal Chess Association. The prize fund was 12,000 EUR.

Kolkata Open was part of a series of strong open tournaments organized in India to celebrate the World Chess Championship Match in Chennai.

Chennai Open was won by the rising star Aravindh Chithambaram, while GM Sethuraman S P took the trophy in Hyderabad Open.

After Kolkata Open there will be a short break for international players as AICF is holding the national championship. However, from the 1st January the tour continues with two back-to-back international opens – the2nd Gurgaon Open and the 12th Delhi Open.
