Kings Chess Tournament finally taking place in November in Bucharest

The Kings Chess Tournament, originally scheduled to start on 23rd June but then postponed due to financial crisis, local elections and turmoil in the sponsoring company Romgaz, will eventually take place from 7th to 17th November at the National Library in Bucharest.

So far the Italian star Fabiano Caruana, who recently shared the first place in Bilbao Final Masters with Magnus Carlsen, has been confirmed as participant.

The tournament format is still not known, but most likely the organizers will keep the usual six-player double round-robin.

The playing venue has been moved from Bazna and Medias to the country’s capital Bucharest. The new building of the National Library has been completed in 2011 and officially opened this year.

The organizers were desperately trying to secure the participation of the World’s top rated player Magnus Carlsen, even keeping the schedule flexible to meet his requirements, but the young Norwegian has already agreed to participate in Gran Fiesta UNAM in Mexico and his calendar is very dense.

The other players will be announced shortly, stay tuned for the updates.
