Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
I was cheering for Karpov but I knew it was a lost cause. What’s kind of worse is that there’s no point to look forward to matches in Paris, Moscow or wherever.
A better match would be rematch of Kasparov versus Anand. I think Kasparov would win again even if they played today.
Sam
This match turned out to be a disaster for both. Poor quality and sportsmanship. Unfortunately, the world will remember them by this match and not the ones before it.
Anand cannot be compared with either Karpov or Kasparov. He is more like their shadow player of the day.
To most of you chess is about winning and losing. It’s not. It’s about love.
the 50th anniversary k-k match was just announced. it’s scheduled for september of 2034. should be good. can’t wait
Age is not on anyone’s side. You got to leave at the top of your game. Wish sports players would accept that.
Unfortunately, we have Michael Jordan, Jerry Rice, Bobby Fischer, and now Anatoly Karpov trying the impossible.
Karpov’s once great performances are getting diminished as a result.
Kasparov shouldn’t play the Aronians, the Radjabovs and the Carsens of today/tomorrow. He dominated the game in his prime, and will be known as the best player ever — unless he starts playing again.
Wonder what Susan Polgar thinks of the match and these comments.
“To most of you chess is about winning and losing. It’s not. It’s about love.”
yes, o yes, that’s right. And I love you for this post, having watched them playing and so giving love to the spectators many times.
okay from germany
I disagree with the idea that players should necessarily quit at the top of their game. One reason I respect Karpov so much is precisely because he didn’t do it. It’s so easy on your ego to quit at the top and pretend like you’re forever the best. Karpov knows it’s not true and he’s not afraid of this becoming obvious to everyone.
Lasker is known to have said that he could try to play Capa again but he’s downright afraid to play Alekhine. So he, too, wasn’t afraid to say that his time had passed.
Such a sober attitude never takes away from one’s past professional greatness, and it only adds respect for their personal qualities.
what did you expect suddenly Karpov to win vs Kasparov? hehe.
