Anand, a 5-time Champion of Corsica Masters from 2000 to 2004, lost to the fellow former FIDE World Champion R. Kasimzhanov in the final.
In the quarterfinals, Anand defeated Mikhail Gurevich 2-0, Kazhgaleyev defeated Gagunashvili 2-0, Bacrot defeated Fressinet 1.5-.5 and Kasimdzhanov defeated Bologan 1.5-.5.
In the semifinals, Kasimdzhanov went overtime to defeat Bacrot 3-1 while Anand defeated Kazhgaleyev 2-0.
Anand, the #1 seed, was upset by Kasimdzhanov by the score of 1.5-.5 in the final. Last year, Anand lost to Vadim Milov in the final after winning 5 straight years.

I don’t think it is that big of an upset. Anand has been on the decline for sometime. Kazimdzhanov is a very good rapid player in his own right.
I do not think Anand has been on the decline at all. he reached his highest elo of 2801 very recently.
people do not seem to understand that chess is goverened by probability and statistics. no matter how hard you try tails will come up on some flips. we just do not always get heads when the coin is flipped.
It would be nice if they had a few extra games for the final. 2 games is just not enough to establish the better player. although it gives a winner.
