Humpy keeps her fingers crossed

HYDERABAD: World No. 2 Koneru Humpy might miss next month’s Doha Asian Games if the Indian Olympic Association doesn’t react in time and let her mother accompany her there.
India will be fielding GMs K. Sasikiran, P. Hari Krishna and Humpy for the Games.
The guidelines in Doha are very strict about separate accommodation for women and men or else she could have taken her father and coach Koneru Ashok.
Humpy (Elo 2545), however, is going ahead with her preparations having already undergone a two-week rigorous training under Ashok with emphasis on improving her middle-game tactics.
…. The effort earned the Vijayawada girl rich compliments from Karpov. “I am impressed by your theoretical understanding of the board,” he told Humpy.

I am surprised Koneru has risen so very high on the world list without somehow being a little more visible in the chess media.
From FIDE.com I cannot even tell — Who is the current Womens’ World Chess Champion?
Impressive! I hope she gets to play and comes to the USA too! If Karpov is impressed she has got a great future ahead! A World Champion sees talent better than anyone!
Such ridiculous ridiculous rules. Father and personal trainer cannot accompany his daughter. Doha, Qatar. Qatar = Islamic nation. Islam = backward religion.
I think it will work out, they (IOA)will show her mom as her coach and allow her to travel with her daughter..
As for the rules in Qatar, rules are rules, u have to follow them or don’t go there…
So that would be Harikrishna, right? Had a good laugh at the text though…
Can’t believe that Koneru’s dad changed her last name to “Humpy” to sound more Russian.
Didn’t anyone tell him what the word “Hump” means in the US?
I mean her first name. For some reason she writes her last name first.
Humpy does not sound russian to me, he should have called her Boris
#2 in the world?!
Looks like Anand right now, maybe Topalov in January how things are going. But Humpy Koneru?? What did I miss???!
Humpy is a Telugu word and yes its a rarely used name. But there is a place called Humpy in the Andhra Pradesh. This place is known to be “Humpy” for past few hundred years. Koneru is the family name inherited from Father. In Andhra Pradesh from where she hails, family name precedes the given name.
