The 4th Polish-Hungarian Friendship Tournament in Katowice attracted almost 600 players from twelve different countries.

There were 21 grandmasters who took part in the OPEN tournament with over 240 players.

The winner of the main tournament is GM Kacper Piorun (POL) who gathered 7,5 points out of 9 games. Second place goes to GM Bartosz Soćko (POL) also 7,5 points, third place for GM Tamas Banusz (HUN) 7,5 points.

In women standings first place is taken by GM Monika Socko (POL) 7 points.

There were five junior groups. The winners are:

Girls: Aleksandra Kieca
Group C U10 Boys: Hubert Meers
Girls: Anna Dallemura
Group D U8 Boys: Dawid Wierzbicki

Group E U7 Boys: Wojciech Wielgus
Girls: Zuzanna Gaszka

The tournament is one of the biggest in Poland. The City of Katowice, Polish Chess Federation and Silesian Chess Federation organized the Polish-Hungarian Friendship Tournament in the International Congress Centre in Katowice.

This was a fantastic opportunity for children to see grandmasters in action and to take part in such a big tournament.

Additionally, on-line coverage was available with live comments by WCM Maria Leks, GM Bartłomiej Heberla and IM Daniel Sadzikowski.

Next year Katowice is going to host the European Blitz & Rapid Championship.
