Jupiter program offers after-school tutoring, tournaments in chess

His record now is two wins, no losses.
Angelo Goss, 14, Jupiter Middle School sixth-grader, has won two first place trophies in two chess tournaments this past year.
“It’s fun, it’s a thinking game,” the teenager said.
He snared his first trophy last year while he was a fifth-grader at Limestone Creek Elementary School.
He and a team of about 15 from LCES, under the coaching of teacher Ron Wilbur, entered a tournament at Northmore Elementary School in West Palm Beach….
Ed Yonkers, who volunteers weekly at West Jupiter Tutorial Center with his wife, oversees the chess club at the after-school tutoring center.
A casual player over the years since he placed second in a high school tournament, Yonkers was one of 14 who got a draw in a marathon chess match, with more than 350 participants, against chess champion Susan Polgar in August 2005.
He enjoys playing against the youngsters, he said. “It’s fun to see the kids progress,” he said. “The biggest enjoyment is to see the personalities develop. This teaches them good sportsmanship which goes for anywhere.”

I see why he beats all the other kids . He is 14 and still in sixth grade playing eleven year olds.
