Jaan Ehlvest takes first place in Heart of Finland Open

For the 22nd time in a row the town of Jyväskylä organised the most important chess tournament of its country, the Heart of Finland Open.

The 9-round swiss event was held from 9th to 15th July, attracting 145 participants from seven countries, including 8 Grandmasters and 7 International Masters.

The dates coincided with the town’s Summer Festival, a rich cultural week with theatre and music performances on the streets of Jyväskylä – a pleasant spare time programme for the participants.

Grandmaster Jaan Ehlvest, formerly from Estonia and now representing the USA, collected 7.5/9 points to take a clear first place and the prize of 1000 EUR.
