The European Senior Rapid Championships for men and women took place on 20-21st March 2013 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria after the European Senior Individual Championships finished one day earlier.
This time, the hosts of Bulgaria took both gold medals. GM Ivan Radulov and WGM Ruzhka Genova were the winners of the men’s and women’s section, respectively.
Radulov edged GM Evgeny Sveshnikov, who also finished second in the main tournament. Both players scored 7/9 points leaving four players half a point behind.
On the other hand, Genova’s 7/9 was enough to get sole first place in the women’s section. GM Nona Gaprindashvili finished second thanks to her tiebreak score.
