Iran comes 2nd at Rethymno chess tournament

Iran’s chess GM Elshan Moradi has come second at the 2009 International Open chess tournament held in the city of Rethymno, Greece.

The 23-year-old Iranian grandmaster came second with seven points after he tied with Russian grandmaster Maxim Turov in the final round of the event on Sunday.

Adam Tukhaev from Ukraine managed to win the tile at the event with the same points. Haznedaroglu Kivanc from Turkey stood in the third place while Russia’s Maxim Turov came fourth.

A total of 180 of the best chess players from 26 countries took part in the international chess tournament held 12-19th July.

Rethymno is the capital of Rethymno Prefecture on the island of Crete.
