Delhi girl and chess champ Tania Sachdev, the 2008 International Master and 2005 Woman Grandmaster, recently tied the knot with fellow Delhiite Viraj Kataria in the capital.

The much-in-love couple held hands throughout the ceremonies. Preceded by the mehendi and sangeet functions (see right), the wedding, held in Chattarpur, was a close-knit affair, with family and a few friends from the chess fraternity in attendance. The bride and groom tied the knot in two different wedding ceremonies – first in an anand karaj, and then the Vedic pheras later.

Anju and Pammi Sachdev, Tania’s parents, told us, “The wedding functions have been on for the past three days and it’s been a long, tiring wedding. However, we are finally at peace, seeing our daughter happily married. It was an emotionally exhausting time for both of us, but thankfully, all went well.”

Bharat Singh Chauhan, president, All India Chess Federation, was also present, and said, “Tania is the queen of Delhi’s chess association. I wish her a successful married life on behalf of all her colleagues.” Also spotted at the wedding were chess Grandmasters Tejas Bakre and Abhijeet Gupta, Tania’s colleagues and friends.
