Chess pawns

The International Nona Gaprindashvli Cup 2015 took place from September 8th – 16th, 2015, at the Chess Palace, in Georgian capital Tbilisi.

The event was a 9-round Swiss tournament, open for players rated over 2000 Elo. The tempo of play was 90’/40 + 30’ + 30”.

Armenian IM Tigran Harutyunian and Georgian GM Tornike Sanikidze tied for the first place with 7/9 points but Harutyunian prevailed on a superior tie-break score. He lifted the trophy, meanwhile adding 10 new Elo points to his rating.

GM Luka Paichadze from Georgia remained third with 6.5 points, while IM Sopiko Khukhashvili emerged the best female player at 6 points.
