World-renowned chess master Blas Lugo will be on Marco Island for a chess exhibition at Mackle Park starting at 2. p.m., Sunday, Feb. 25. Lugo will play simultaneous chess with 50 people of all ages who preregister.
Players must arrive at the event by 1:30 p.m. or their seats can be forfeited. The purpose of the exhibition is to garner interest on the island for the Marco Island Chess Enthusiasts (MICE). The purpose of MICE is to bring chess to youngsters, teach and mentor them in what is one of the most difficult but exciting and easy-to-learn games.
…Lugo was born in Cuba. He now resides in Miami, traveling the world playing in international chess matches in which a great deal of money is at stake.
Sanchez said he approached Lugo to come to Marco as part of a promotional event intended to increase interest in the game.

I saw Marco Island (in Florida) in December 2006. The huge beautiful new homes being built there ($3-$5 million) have jaw-dropping views — the neighbors include both an everglade and the gulf waters.
