News Release: Ian Wilkinson Joins Kasparov Presidential Ticket
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Kasparov 2014 campaign team announces that Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Hamed has withdrawn from the Garry Kasparov 2014 FIDE presidential ticket effective immediately. Sheikh Mohammed regrets his withdrawal which was necessitated by serious private issues. Garry Kasparov and the entire campaign team thank Sheikh Mohammed for his efforts on the campaign and for chess.
The vacant spot on the Kasparov ticket has been filled by Mr. Ian Wilkinson, QC, the president of the Jamaica Chess Federation. Mr. Wilkinson met extensively with Garry Kasparov in Jamaica in early April and had already decided to accept a position in the campaign team. Mr. Kasparov was very impressed with Mr. Wilkinson’s character and his numerous successful efforts in the realms of chess in education and commercial sponsorship, two of the most important planks in the Kasparov team’s reform agenda.
This is a huge loss for Kasparov. I hope his campaign isn’t in trouble.
