To the FIDE Ethics Commission
15th January 2008, Budapest
On behalf of the Hungarian Chess Federation I strongly protest against the unethical behavior of chessplayers Oleg Krivonosov, Vladimir Lazarev and Ilmars Starostits at the Vandoeuvre Open. Their unfair attacks against Ms Anna Rudolf reveal their preconception and prejudice against a female chessplayer and violate the FIDE Code of Ethics. Ms Anna Rudolf’s opponent even refused to shake hands with her before starting the game in the last round.
Throughout the tournament they deprived Ms Rudolf of being able to concentrate on the games by constantly accusing her of cheating. The ’gentlemen’ mentioned above did not provide any evidence of their claims. However, they showed extensive knowledge of cheating methods. (Source: Ugly story at Vandoeuvre Open, http://www.chessdom.com/news/anna-rudolf)
I declare that Ms Anna Rudolf has been playing chess for 15 years and there has never been even a subtle sign of her being unfair or using analysing programs while playing games at chess tournaments.
We believe that chess games should be played on the board according to FIDE rules avoiding threats and psychological pressure on the opponent.
As a consequence of the unacceptable behaviour of the mentioned chess players, we firmly appeal to the FIDE Ethics Commission to examine the case in order to declare the behaviour of the mentioned players unethical and provide peaceful atmosphere for Ms Anna Rudolf at Capella-La-Grande in February 2008.

The letter could have been better drafted. It is judgemental about why the three players levelled the accusations of cheating. There was no need to be judgemental in this way.
The letter could have asked for minimum standards of evidence before cheating accusations are made. This seems the obvious way, one that Ken Regan recommended.
Did she cheat in the end or not? She must have told some close friends.
Anna is an honest person. Those three should be banned from chess forever so that they can go back to delivering pizzas.
FIDE should do the right thing!
One is innocent until proven guilty unless you are a crack-pot lawyer like Lafferti.

While I suspect ‘right’ is with Anna on this, the “innocent until proved guilty” comment applies to the three other chess players as well.
