The 43rd 2006 National ‘A’ Indian Men’s Chess Championship is being held in coastal city of Visakhapatnam, India from April 3rd to 17th, 2006. The tournament is a category eight, with an average rating of 2442. GMs Ganguly, Sandipan, Kunte, Ramesh and many titled player are participating. After five rounds, Humpy, the only female in the “Men’s” section, is leading with a perfect 5.0/5.0 score. Her nearest rivals are trailing her by 1.5 points.

Humpy has just turned 19 and is the second-highest active female player (after Judit Polgar) in the latest FIDE rating list. She is also the 5th ranked overall player in India. As I predicted before, she has a very bright future ahead of her.

She is quiet, humble, mature and has strong work ethics, similar to the tradition of the Polgar sisters when we were younger, and unlike some of the other young female players today who are more into personal ego and fame. I wish Humpy the best and I expect her to be a Women’s World Champion in the near future. Posted by Picasa
