Robert Hovhannesyan leading Karen Asryan Memorial

PanARMENIAN.Net – Karen Asryan Memorial chess tournament is going on in Jermuk, Armenia, with participation of 64 chess players from Armenia, Russia and Georgia.

Robert Hovhannesyan tops the standings with 2 points, after defeating Suren Poghosyan in the 2nd round. He is followed by Russia’s Sergey Volkov and Georgia’s Shanava Konstantine.

The prize fund of the tournament is $15 thousand.

Karen Asryan, one of the best Armenian grandmasters, 2006 chess Olympian, died at the age of 28 in 2008. The Chess Giants tournament which was stopped over his death, was later named after him.
