Der Verein Schachfestival Basel is organizing the Hilton Chess Festival Basel on 1-5th January 2014 at Hilton, Aeschengraben 31, in Basel, Switzerland.

The Festival will consist of four events:
– Master tournament
– Amateur tournament
– Blitz tournament will be held on 3rd January (start at 20:00h)
– Youth Rapid will be held on 5th January

Master and Amateur events will be played over 7 rounds of Swiss pairings. The time control will be 100 min for 40 moves + 30 min to finish + 30 sec increment from the first move.

Master tournament prizes: CHF 2500, 2000, 1500, 1000, 700, 500, 300, 200, 200, 200
ELO U2300, U2100, Woman, Senior: CHF 200.

Amateur tournament prizes: CHF 1000, 700, 400, 300, 250, 200, 150, 100, 100, 100
ELO U1800, U1600, U1500: CHF 100.-

Blitz tournament will be played over 9 or 11 rounds of Swiss system (depending on number of players) with time control 5 min per player per game. Prizes are CHF 150, 100, 50, 30, 30, 30.

Youth Rapid will be played in two groups – U16 and U12. Tournament format is 7-round Swiss with 15-minute per player per game.

Hilton Chess Festival Basel is conveniently set to take place immediately after the Zurich Christmas Open.
