Hero’s welcome for chess champ Jorge Cori

Lima, Nov. 29 (ANDINA). Peruvian chess player Jorge Cori received a hero’s welcome home on Tuesday after winning the World Youth Chess Championship in Goias, Brazil, an event involving 200 competitors from 20 countries.

The 14-year-old prodigy arrived in the capital Lima alongside his father Jorge Cori and sister, Peruvian WGM Deysi Cori, who recently won the 29th World Junior Girls Chess Championships in Chennai, India.

Jorge Cori finished the U16 tournament unbeaten with six wins and three draws, defeating Canadian Konstantin Semianiuk in the final.

Jorge became the youngest Grand Master in the world in 2009. At 14 years and 2 months he conquered the final GM norm at the International Marcel Duchamp Championship in Argentina.
