Caen Chess Club “Alekhine” is one of the greatest in the Lower-Normandy Region of France. The Club has been organizing the International Open Tournament of Caen for over 20 years.

The 24th edition of the event took place from 30th October to 2nd November 2014 in the city of Caen, a commune in northwestern France and capital of the Basse-Normandie Region.

The event was split into two tournaments: Open A (open to all) and Open B (open to players rated below 1700) and it gathered 188 players altogether.

Open A was a 7-round Swiss tournament with tempo of play 90′ + 30″ and top prizes 1.000 €/ 700 €/ 500 €.

The first place was shared in a three-way tie by GM Namig Guliyev AZE (2556), IM Gabriel Battaglini FRA 2430 and GM Li Chao CHN 2711 on 6/7 points each. However, Azerbaijani Grandmaster emerged a winner on his better tie-break score. You can see the final standings below.
