Af3 and the rook in f2 is trapped.
Rf3
Okay, I’m confused already. “Af3”? I can do the piece symbols in two languages:
English – K Q R B N
German – K D T L S
… but I still haven’t learned what an “A” is or how it moves.
It can’t be a rook, because 1.Rf3? leads nowhere after 1…R7xf3+ 2.Bxf3 Rxb2. It can’t be a bishop, because after 1.Bf3 Black just snatches with 1…Rxb2. And White has no other legal moves to f3.
It is Rf3.
If 1…R7xf3+ 2.Bxf3 Rxb2 then e5+ and White gets a free knight 🙂

Sorry, I still don’t see it. What’s wrong with 3…Kc7?
How about e5+.
sets up some knight forks of king and rook after BxB.
forget all about the f3 square and f2 rook. you do not win the rook on f2 by blocking on f3.
Look more closely at e5 check.
Anon 8:36, I’m with you. 1.e5+ looks very tough. If 1…Kxe5 2.Bxb3 snags a piece (2…cxb3 3.Nd3+). Or 1…Kd7 2.Bf3. Or 1…Kc7 2.Bxb3.
Or 1…Ke7 2.Bxb3 cxb3 3.Rc7+.
To anonymous 8:01: The first response could be in Italian.
English – K Q R B N
Italian – R D T A C
Italian – R D T A C
Thanks! Spanish players seem to use those five letters, too.
1. e5+
A. 1.. Kxe5 2. Bxb3 cxb3 3. Nd3+
B. 1.. Kc7 2. Bxb3
C. 1.. Ke7 3. Bf3!
“A” comes from “Alfil” which is Spanish for Bishop.
