2.Nf6+ followed by 3.Nxg8 wins a piece.We should not overlook the possibility of the N being trapped at g8.Even if such a thing is possible the time gained must be used for improving the position of other pieces.In this case

(2…. Ke7 3.Nxg8+ 4.Kf8 Nh6 and the N escapes.)
3.Nxg8 Re6
4.Rh1 Rg6
5.Nh6 is safe.

2. Nf6 wins a knight.
