Grandmaster chess champion visits Skokie

Sometimes a game is not just a game.

Serious chess players of all ages came to the North Shore Chess Center Saturday and Sunday looking for key advice from one of the best.

Yasser Seirawan, ranked as a chess grandmaster, is also a four-time U.S. champion and 1979 winner of the World Chess Championship. He has written several books on chess and has become a respected chess commentator.

Seirawan this weekend not only lectured about the game he loves but he also provided hands-on demonstrations and signed some of the books he has authored.

Seirawan began playing chess before he was a teenager and at 13 he became Washington junior champion. At 19 he won the World Junior Chess Championship.
