The Asian Amateur Championship reeled off today with 110 players from 8 countries seeing action at the 5-star Crown Plaza Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. More photos at the Asian Chess Federation site.

The tournament is being organized in grand style by the Malaysian Chess Federatiion under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation. A total of $7,000 is at stake in the 9-round Swiss system tournament which will also decide the Asian Amateur Women’s Champion and the Asian Unrated Champion.

The entire Mezzanine was reserved for the chess tournament. Players enjoy luxurious facilities, well-lit playing hall, lounges and analysis room, VIP room, lobby reception with hotel staff serving free coffee and tea to all accompanying persons and spectators!

Visit chess-results.com for results and standings. The 9-round Swiss will decide the Asian Amateur Champion. The top four Women shall play a knockout blitz match to decide the women’s winners. The top four unrated players shall also play knockout blitz matches to decide the unrated champion.

While the host Malaysians have the most number of players, large delegations from the United Arab Emirates and Singapore are participating in the tournament. Other players are from Nepal, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines and Sri Lanka.
