Grabinsky heads to college with chess scholarship

COQUILLE — Aaron Grabinsky wrapped up his high school chess career this summer with trips to the National Denker Tournament of High School Champions, the US Open, also in Indianapolis, and the North American Youth Championships in Windsor, Ont.

Grabinsky tied for second in the Denker Tournament, placed first in the Master division of the US Open and placed fourth in the NAYC’s under-18 category.

Grabinsky is now attending Webster University in Missouri on a chess scholarship. He will be studying with Susan Polgar, women’s world champion and a grandmaster.
