This is FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov in Doha, Qatar
GM Humpy Koneru has captured the first Gold medal for India in Doha by winning the Women’s Rapid event by the score of 8/9. She edged out WGM Zhao Xue of China who scored 7.5/9. Humpy’s only loss came in the hand of Zhao Xue. Former Women’s World Champion GM Zhu Chen scored a distant 6/9 to capture the Bronze for Qatar.
Here is the official website.
Congratulations to all three ladies!
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
There is a mistake in Zhu chen’s result, it should be 6/9, not 6/6
Humpy has matured into a sexy girl .
She was struggling for sponsorship money sometime ago. Hope she does OK now that she has won the gold medal.

Is that Kirsan Ilyumzhinov in that pic? What’s his playing strength?
Why did you use that pic for this post? That’s doesn’t look like Women’s Rapid to me.
This photo raises a good point:
That chess plays no favorites, it crosses all boundaries: national, political, religious, cultural, economical, comical (I couldn’t resist!)!
