GM Sandro Mareco convincing in Mar del Plata

The 43rd Mar del Plata International Chess Tournament was held from 31st March to 7th April at the Centro Asturiano in Mar del Plata, Argentina.

The legendary event is this year named as “Torneo Ciudad de Mar del Plata-Marcel Duchamp”. The 9-round Swiss event has attracted 235 players from 8 countries with seven Grandmasters in the field.

GM Sandro Mareco won the race in convincing fashion, by gathering 8/9 points to finish clear first, half a point ahead of GM Diego Flores. Full standings bellow.

Mar del Plata is located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, about 400 km south of Buenos Aires. Mar del Plata is the second largest city of Buenos Aires Province, one of the major fishing ports and the biggest seaside beach resort in Argentina.
