The ITT Programa de Alto Rendimiento chess tournament was conducted between 24 and 30 November at the City Hall of Montevideo, Uruguay.

Among the ten players in the round robin tournament there were also young members of the Programa de Alto Rendimiento de la Federación Uruguaya de Ajedrez: Mateo Arcos Facio, Rafael Muníz and Claudio Cópola. They needed to score at least 6,5/9 points for the IM norm.

Four countries were represented – Germany, Argentina, Peru and Uruguay, with two Grandmasters in the field, including the best Uruguayan player in history – GM Andres Rodriguez.

GM Salvador Alonso from Argentina took a clear first place after getting unbeaten score of 7.5/9 points. Rafael Muniz took second place with 6.5 points and thus obtained the IM norm. GM Andres Rodriguez finished third after getting 6 points.
