The Hong Kong International Open Chess Championship 2014 was organized on 1-5th October 2014 by the Hong Kong Chess Federation (HKCF) in collaboration with Faculty of Science, The University of Hong Kong, HKUSU Chess with the Board Games Club and generously funded by the Kasparov Chess Foundation Asia-Pacific.

97 players from 17 different federations took part in the event (Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Nepal, Philippines, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Thailand and United States of America).

Chinese GMs Riuyuan Yu and Chongsheng Zeng shared first place on 7,5 points, but Yu prevailed on a better tie-break score.

Second place was shared in a three-way tie by Xiaopeng Zhang (CHN), GM Darwin Laylo (PHI) and IM Manuel Pena Gomez (ESP) on 7 points. You can see the full standings below.

The 21-year-old Xiaopeng Zhang took the bronze and added 58 ELO points to his rating.
