Seconds after the final game against GM Amanov

Sometimes you rather be lucky than good. In this case, perhaps both. Italian IM Roberto Mogranzini played very aggressive chess at the 2011 SPICE Cup B group. He took a lot of chances and it paid off.

Going into the final day, he needed 1 out of 2 to earn a GM norm. He made it a lot harder for himself by losing the morning round. That means that he had to beat GM Mesgen Amanov in the final game to get his norm. In a complicated position, GM Amanov blundered and he took full advantage of it.

Congratulations to Roberto!
