ECO Cultural Institute (ECI) in collaboration with Iran Chess Federation organized the first edition of “ECO Chess Cup” from 3rd to 12th of September 2014 in the Iranian capital Tehran to improve cooperation and exchange culture between member countries of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
10 players from 10 different federation of member countries of ECO including Islamic Republic of Iran, Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkey took part in the tournament. The tournament was played in a round-robin format under the FIDE laws of chess with a time control 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game plus 30 seconds increment starting from move 1.
Iranian representative GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami (2594) emerged a clear winner with 7 points, leaving the runner-up half point behind. He lifted the trophy and took the first prize in the amount of 2.500 $.
Second place was shared by GM Marat Dzhumaev from Uzbekistan (2510) and Azerbaijani GM Azer Mirzoev (2550) on 6,5 points each, but Dzhumaev took the silver on a better tie-break score.
