GM Flumbort Andras Dr. on top at Budapest First Saturday May 2012 GM Tournament

All GM-s were in top forms at First Saturday Budapest GM Tournament this month so none of the candidates could achieve any norms. The winner GM Flumbort Andras Dr. (HUN) a newly graduate lawyer presented high level of sportsmanship just by starting again after a modest performance delivered in the previous month. This time he succeeded in combining his extraordinary theoretical knowledge with brilliant technique so his victory was fully deserved.

The IM section brought sharp fight in every game for FIDE-Rating and title opportunities.

It was full of talented young players who play already at much higher level that their present FIDE-Ratings. Therefore also in this group nobody could hit the IM norm though at least five candidates who follow the winner definitely play at standard IM level at least.

Tesik Csaba (HUN) whose coach is a former Olympic Champion (1978 Buenos Aires) Sax Gyula (HUN) was closest to the IM norm but in the round last but one he lost an extremely high level game against Gledura Benjamin (HUN) former U10 European Champion (Fermo ITA 2009 ) who was also silver medalist at the U12 junior World Ch. (Caldas Novas, BRA).

There were two more groups playing just for rating points but with not at all less intensity of fight. The new air-conditioned large and bright playing hall at the Hotel MEDOSZ Budapest provided an ideal room for playing. The hotel staff month by month show kind hospitality to all participants and the Hotel MEDOSZ has become a new chess center in Budapest also running a children’s chess school (called SZEBEN Chess Academy) on Saturday mornings.

The next First Saturday events are scheduled at 2-12th June where we hope to welcome even more guests.
