Host country Germany is facing Argentina today in Berlin.

The two giants of the international game have met each other in the final of two previous World Cups, 1986 and 1990, with the teams winning one game each.

Germany lead Argentina with three trophies to the South Americans’ two in World Cup titles.

The Germans have failed to make it to through to the quarter-finals in only one of their 15 World Cup Finals appearances, back in 1938. (In 1978 there were second phase groups in place of the knock-out stages)

Argentina’s have progressed to the last eight for only the second time in the last four World Cup Finals.

On paper, it seems that Germany is the favorite playing at home. But in one game, anything can happen. Don’t count Argentina out. I think it will go to the distance.

Which team will win? Germany or Argentina?

UPDATE: After 90 minutes in regulation and 30 additional minutes in 2 overtime, the score remained 1-1. Germany won 4-2 in penalty kicks. The German goalie made 2 saves! He guessed correctly on all 4 shots and saved 2 of them! He was awesome!
