Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
WTG, Galliamova. I wish a nice person like her would win.
Kosteniuk should be under 2500 after this tournament. She’ll probably out of the top 20 in the world. That’s too bad. She should give up her spot in the women’s world championship to Nadezhda Kosintseva who’s a lot stronger and more deserving.
Championship titles are decided by specific contests. Right now, Magnus Carlsen may be “more deserving” than Vishy Anand, but he won’t “be” world champion until he takes the title in competition.
Kosteniuk is the Women’s World Champion and will be until someone defeats her.
It’s not a popularity contest. It’s a chess title.
Bravo Galiampva
Kosteniuk is having a bad tournament.
So too is Nadezhda Kosintseva. She’s 6th out of 12 players, & 2 points behind Galliamova with 2 rounds to play – just half a point ahead of Kosteniuk.
What makes Kosteniuk’s bad tournament so much less deserving than Kosintseva’s ?
& what has the result of this one tournament to do with the world championship ? Precisely nothing.
If Kosintseva is so strong & deserving, how did it come about that she didn’t qualify ? There are, after all, 64 places.
& if we’re giving out a free place, then surely the place should go to Galliamova on the evidence of this tournament.
I’m rooting for Paikidze myself. Kid’s only just turned 17 !!!
