Well, at least not yet. Our “Chess For Peace” group will leave for Moscow in a few hours. But that’s a good James Bond song though.
Trivia questions:
1. Who sung the James Bond song “From Russia with Love”?
2. What year was that movie?
From Russia with love I fly to you
Much wiser since my goodbye to you
I’ve travelled the world to learn
I must return from Russia with love
I’ve seen places, faces and smiled for a moment
But oh, you haunted me so
Still my tongue tied, young pride
Would not let my love for you show
In case you say no
To russia I flew but there and then
I suddenly knew you’d care again
My running around is through
I fly to you, from Russia with love
My next blog would most likely come from Moscow “if” I can find Internet connection 🙂
Matt Monro, from 1963’s movie of the same name. I always liked Tom Jones’s “Thunderball” a little better
I like Thunderball better too. Well done Marcus!
Best wishes,

Was there any chess in James Bond’s movies?
Sure.
Kronsteen was the head of the planning department for SMERSH in the novel “From Russia with Love”. He was a Chess expert and the champion of Moscow for two years running.
info from Wikipedia
Elvis Presley? hahaha
TFK
Seriously Susan you have to check out Goldfinger The Bond movies of Bond movies!
TFK
Kronsteen was also one of the people who thought up the moves that Karpov and Korchnoi would play against each other. They had huge teams of people to pre-compose the games in big matches such as this but a select few are responsible for deciding most of their moves.
For your eyes only
Can see me through the night
For your eyes only
I never need to hide
You can see so much in me
So much in me that’s new
I never felt until I looked at you
For your eyes only
Only for you
You’ll see what no one else can see
And now I’m breaking free
For your eyes only
Only for you
The love I know you need in me
The fantasy you’ve freed in me
Only for you
Only for you
For your eyes only
The nights are never cold
You really know me
That’s all I need to know
Maybe I’m an open book
Because I know you’re mine
But you won’t need to read between the lines
For your eyes only
Only for you
You see what no one else can see
And now I’m breaking free
For your eyes only
Only for you
The passions that collide in me
The wild abandoned side of me
Only for you
For your eyes only
Nobody does it better
Makes me feel sad for the rest
Nobody does it half as good as you
Baby, you’re the best
I wasn’t lookin’, but somehow you found me
I tried to hide from your love light
But like heaven above me
The spy who loved me
Is keeping all my secrets safe tonight
And nobody does it better
Though sometimes I wish someone could
Nobody does it quite the way you do
Why’d you have to be so good?
The way that you hold me
Whenever you hold me
There’s some kind of magic inside you
That keeps me from runnin’
But just keep it comin’
How’d you learn to do the things you do?
And nobody does it better
Makes me feel sad for the rest
Nobody does it half as good as you
Baby, baby
Baby, you’re the best
You are a true chess ambassador, such as few have lived on earth. May your journey be successful.
Did anyone know that the chess position from “From russia with love” was an adaptation from the game Spassky-Bronstein 1960??
In fact when it comes to James Bond songs….. Shirley Bassey’s Goldfinger was best (at least for me)
Bond, James Bond.
